The chassis is constructed of 16 gauge steel with full seam welds. Cabinet construction is either birch ply, guantumbo ply, or pine with "finger joint" edges for increased strength. For the past 20 years I have owned and operated a guitar and amplifier repair facility in Pensacola, Florida. I have provided services for the following musicians and bands: Steve Howe (Yes/Asia), Megadeath, Jerry Sullivan (Sullivan Family Gospel Bluegrass Group), Mark Bryan (Hootie and the Blowfish), and Shenandoah.

Being a guitar player, I have owned and performed through some of the most popular amplifiers ever produced. These include the plexy and post plexy Marshalls and the tweed, creme, and blackfaced Fenders. I found that I could get the sounds and tonal qualities that I was searching for...almost. I always felt a need to "tweak" the amp.

Out of this search came my desire to build an amplifier designed to allow the player to truly personalize his own sound. All Boyden amplifiers are designed to respond to the player's touch by truly sensing the intensity of the attack. They respond with all the subtlety and force generated by the player himself.
